Obama's visit to India

United States president Barack Obama has received a warm welcome in India, as Indians are accustomed to treat their guests as god. Mr. and Mrs. Obama too enjoyed their stay in Mumbai, few occasions they have been informal with kids and collage students. However this visit from world most powerful man is strategically more important for India and economically for America On the very first day of his tour he initiated couple of deals and announced to have secured 50 000 jobs in US. After a meet with Prime Minister Mr. Manmohan Singh and addressing the joint session of parliament house Mr. Obama has claimed his visit successful. However there are few questions still unanswered in India's point of view.

  • What India has gained out of these deals?
  • What would be America's stance on terrorism and Pakistan?

India as an emerging power in the world driven with enthusiasm of entrepreneurs, and educated young manpower making a recognition on world level, and speeding towards the goal of being a superpower. At this point India is considered among the top powers in the world, has contributed to world community in its past thrive to do so in future. Recent visit by Barack Obama indicates strategic importance of the largest south Asian country. Although Obama has made his intentions clear about tour to India, he wants a helping hand from India to stabilize US economy. At some instances it might feel that India would be less benefited than US from current dealings, but one may conclude gains India will receive in long term. Its a beginning of close ties between India and US, Obama has supported India's claim for permanent seat in UN security council highlighting India success in foreign policy despite 1998 nuclear test. India has been successful to convince world about her values in non violence. This would help eliminating ban on technology transfers to research and development organizations like ISRO and DRDO. India's dream to modernized armed forces can be accomplished much earlier with the help of superior technology from US. While China surrounding India with her bases in POK, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Pakistan with its harbored terrorist groups are ready to attack sovereignty of the world's largest democracy at any time. India at this point need a partner to nullify the emerging threats from China and Pakistan.

United States fighting with Taliban and other terrorist groups in Afghanistan has been spending lots of efforts and resources, US army struggling and still unable to gain decisive victory over the Islamic fundamentalist in the country, needs support from Pakistan to counter-terrorism. Under pressure from US, Pakistan government is bound to take action on terrorism willingly or unwillingly. It is in benefit of US and India to have stable government in Pakistan. Because Pakistan possesses nuclear weapons in case of any coup of revolt from Islamic fundamentalist these weapons would be exposed to them. By using nuclear weapons against US, Israel, or India they can cause mass destruction of human lives and property. Hence US can not afford to withdraw her support from Pakistan and let democracy to fall and later consequences to happen. At this point of time to supply resources to forces in Afghanistan US needs ports of Pakistan, without help from Pakistan their army would be forced to retreat and withdraw. US wants to accomplish her target in Afghanistan, Americans would keep fighting with terrorists but also would be providing Pakistan with arms and funds. With Obama's current visit to India her policy about Pakistan is certainly not likely to change.
